SGPA Architecture and Planning is excited to welcome its new Director of Operations, Richard Racicot, AIA, to our San Diego office.
With more than 40 years of experience, Richard brings a wealth of knowledge and practical skills to SGPA. His responsibilities will include leading and mentoring our design team as a Senior Associate while advising the whole company on quality control efforts.
With an extensive and impressive background in retail, higher education and wellness, Richard offers qualifications SGPA found indisputable to warrant future growth and success for ourselves and our clients. Since our inception in 1969, we have continued to produce high-quality work around many facets of specialties. Richard’s integration into the SGPA family will continue this work discipline and enhance our reputation as a leading firm with a focus in retail, mixed-use, wellness, senior living, education, housing and civic properties.
“SGPA is thrilled to welcome Richard as our new Director of Operations. Richard will play a pivotal role in the firm’s tradition of providing design excellence and quality services,” said Keith Pittsford, Principal. “Improvements in the economy are advantageous to our talent and new delivery methods, and SGPA will continue to produce great deliverables for our clients.”
A graduate of San Diego State University, Richard first got his start in the A/E/C industry in high school, as an Intermediate Draftsman at his school district’s Facilities Department.
“From an early age, I developed a great internal passion and love for architecture. My lifelong desire and determined direction was to become a licensed Builder and Architect, with an overriding passion, dedication and deep internal drive to understand art, architecture and construction,” said Racicot. “The school district that I attended had a strong high school vocational program. Besides college prep courses, I was enrolled in a three year architectural program that included architectural design/drafting along with an apprentice program in Construction Carpentry. At that point, my lifelong career desires and unrelenting determination were etched in my consciousness.”
Racicot enriched his career through roles at top-ranking firms like HDR, Carter & Burgess and Gensler. His primary focus in education and wellness led him to collaborate extensively with governing agencies such as the Department of State Architects and the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. Racicot’s work history affords him unique perspective, awareness and particularities that SGPA believes will yield unrivaled work from him as well as strengthen SGPA’s technical and production staff under his mentorship.
As Richard begins his work with SGPA, our long-standing Director of Operations, Bill Headley, will begin transitioning out of his role. After 28 phenomenal years with SGPA, he is scheduled to ease out of his duties by November.
Please join us in welcoming Richard Racicot to SGPA Architecture and Planning!
