SGPA is a California-based architecture firm that transforms everyday environments into dynamic and memorable places. Our design and planning team pools expertise in retail, commercial, residential, education, senior living, and wellness to create viable and sustainable mixed-use communities by working collaboratively with our clients. Our practice is rooted in design creativity, effective management, and technology, supporting our commitment to enhance the quality of people’s lives through smart design.
Our firm serves California and the western United States through three offices in Southern, Northern and Central California. Our areas of architecture and planning expertise include shopping malls, urban infill projects, mixed-use town centers, multifamily housing, senior living, medical clinics, memory care residences, Higher Education Campus’, new classroom buildings, K-12 school modernization, parking garages, and civic parks.
We’ve located our offices in the heart of three very different cities, soaking up the urban landscapes of both northern, central, and southern California. Because we live in the neighborhoods we serve, we feel personally connected to our work through the lives of our families and neighbors.
We believe that collaborative design leads to thoughtful choices and elegant problem-solving. That’s why our entire staff operates as one seamless team. Learn more about the people behind the designs.

SGPA was founded in 1969 when Donald Schoell, Eugene Geritz, Robert Paul and Arthur Allard merged their architectural practices to form a new entity. Since opening our doors, we’ve designed an integral part of the Southern California and Bay Area landscape, providing places for thousands of people to live, gather, learn, and heal.
