It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Art Allard, founding partner of SGPA Architecture and Planning.
The “A“ in SGPA, Art helped establish the firm in 1969 and built a strong foundation in planning and commercial design that enabled decades of growth into education, civic, residential, senior living, and wellness work.
Art’s impact extended far beyond projects. He was a leader and connector within the AEC community, bringing together firm leaders across San Diego to share ideas and strengthen the profession long before such collaboration became the norm. His steady presence reflected a deep personal faith that guided his values and commitment to integrity and fairness, setting a tone that continues to define SGPA today.
SGPA’s former Director of the San Diego Office, Keith Pittsford, reflected: “Art was a leader by his example. I never saw him flustered or angry—he always had a cheerful countenance and a willingness to help. He was quick to listen, slow to speak, and always up for a good laugh. We will miss him, but we are richer for having known him.”
