The repairs and structural upgrades have effectively preserved the building’s historic character while enabling expanded storefronts on the ground floor. The project has successfully established a unique focal point along the crucial transition zone between UC Berkeley and downtown Berkeley. In addition, the new cafe now provides an active street scene in this evolving neighborhood. The two-story 1920s design by Timothy Pflueger (with full basement) offers 63,500 SF of leasable space, including 14,400 SF of retail space and 14,000 SF of office space. The project also aims to enrich the pedestrian urban experience along three prominent streets and enhance second-floor access and circulation.
