As SDSU moves from its commuter-oriented past into a more residential future, it has built a new mixed-use campus gateway.
The South Campus Plaza project offers diversified retail options alongside high-quality student housing and related amenities. SGPA designed the 300-car parking structure designed to support retail tenants and patrons, as well as the student residences on upper floors. SGPA was the executive Architect for the Parking Structure and lead consultant for retail design. SVA Architects, Inc. provided design for the 350-unit student housing element of this project.
SGPA held a crucial role in retail advising by assessing preliminary design, budget assumptions, and revenue projections for potential developments. The Team provided guidance to project consultants on the conceptual design and feasibility of retail spaces and uses. SGPA also explored the placement of retail tenants concerning vehicular and pedestrian arrival experiences. Additionally, SGPA prepared merchandising plans tailored to attract prospective students while meeting the needs of residents, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community throughout the year.
